Violist Caroline Donin is an adventurous, virtuoso and passionate artist who possesses an exceptional musical repertoire, ranging from Baroque to contemporary and avant-garde music. Both a soloist and a fervent chamber musician, Caroline Donin performs regularly in the most prestigious concert hallq and festivals internationally.

At the age of nine, while attending a string quartet concert, she discovered by chance the captivating, warm sound of the viola. Since then, she has never left the viola – the instrument that symbolizes the soul of chamber music and the heart of orchestral sound. Throughout her career, Caroline Donin has explored the many faces, genres, styles, and capabilities of the viola.

After receiving her First Prize Diploma in viola and in chamber music at the Paris National Conservatory, she became a member of the Ardeo Quartet. With this prestigious ensemble, she was awarded numerous prizes, such as the Melbourne International Competition, and the Borcian International Competition. In 2016, She joined the Syntonia Ensemble, a quintet with which she has performed numerous concerts across the world. Recently, she has also joined the Schneeweiss Trio, and the Appasionato Ensemble.

In the past few seasons, Caroline Donin has performed at the Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Bologna Festival, the NCPA in Beijing, the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Festival de Radio France in Montpellier, and the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon. She has collaborated with today’s greatest soloists, such as Renaud Capuçon, Henri Demarquette, Michel Portal, Emmanuelle Bertrand and David Kadouch.

In addition to her activity as soloist and chamber musician, Caroline Donin is also regularly invited to join prestigious orchestras in Europe, such as the Paris Orchestra, the Luxemburg Chamber Orchestra, and the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2013, she has served as violist of the Geneva Camerata, in Switzerland.

Passionate about music of our time and collaborating with living composers, Caroline Donin has given the world premiere of numerous new works, both as soloist and chamber musician. This season, she gives the world premiere of a new viola concerto, written for her and the Geneva Camerata by the Swiss-Georgian composer Demetre Gamsachurdia.
