A self-taught singer, Emma Lamadji began her musical journey relatively late. She sang in various gospel groups in the south of France (Soul Travelers Quartet, Gospel Healing, Blackness) and opened for renowned artists such as Liz McComb, Rhoda Scott, and Linda Lee Hopkins.

Promoted to choir director of the Gospelize It Project, Emma Lamadji has led numerous concerts and masterclasses. Her outstanding pedagogical skills have led her to work with Cirque du Soleil, leading 150 children in Dubaï for the superproduction Voices of Tolerance. Jazz festivals, schools, and cultural organizations around the world have continued to call upon her expertise.

After several years touring across Europe, her Central African roots began to call to her. She joined the acclaimed afrobeat group Fanga, an experience that fueled her growing desire to reconnect with her African heritage. For more than 10 years, Emma Lamadji fully expressed herself as co-lead singer of the explosive group of dirty afrobeat Afrorockerz.

Then came a time for introspection and the desire to “express her own music.” Afroplugged, her first personal project, symbolizes the cultural and musical diversity that defines her. It is a humble blend of all her musical loves; a contemporary, intense, soulful, and singular afro-soul, reflecting a personality that sings with authenticity at every moment.

Both lead singer and backing vocalist, author and composer, arranger and vocal coach, her talent shines through in collaborations with many renowned artists. Today, Emma continues to expand her collaborations, always seeking renewal, learning, but above all, human connections.
