Caroline Meng
Recognized as one of the most eclectic and virtuosic opera singers on the international stage, Caroline Meng possesses an exceptionally rich repertoire spanning from the Baroque to contemporary music. She is equally at home in the world of opera and sacred music, while also embracing daring solo performances.
After obtaining her first prizes in piano and chamber music, she turned to singing and studied with Malcolm Walker. She quickly began receiving invitations to perform at some of the world’s leading opera houses. She made her debut as Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Royal Opera House of Versailles, before taking on the title role in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, performed at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and BOZAR in Brussels.
Particularly renowned for her finesse and elegance in the French repertoire, she has performed the role of Madame de Folle-Verdure in Offenbach’s La Vie Parisienne, directed by Christian Lacroix, as part of a three-year international tour. She has received widespread acclaim for her interpretation of Gounod’s Messe de Saint-Louis-des-Français, as well as for her numerous collaborations with the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice and on tour, performing masterpieces of French Romanticism. She also recorded the celebrated Concert Royal de la Nuit with the ensemble Correspondances, a project that took her on tour in China.
More recently, she has taken on the role of Octavian in Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier in Sydney, the title role in Carmen in India, Neptuno in Durón’s Coronis in Madrid, Ismène in Telemann’s Orpheus in Magdeburg, Bellezza and Hero in Cavalli’s Egisto at the Opéra-Comique in Paris and the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, and Fyodor in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov at the Opéra de Marseille.
Her recordings for prestigious labels such as Harmonia Mundi, Alpha, Naïve and Naxos have received numerous awards and accolades.
Passionate about contemporary creation, she has given the world premieres of numerous works, collaborating with a wide range of contemporary composers as part of projects with IRCAM in Paris. Equally committed to introducing young audiences to the art of opera, she teaches at the CRR de Paris and trains the young singers of the Sotto Voce Children’s Choir.
